Richard Marsh is no stranger to performing parody shows but this year, with the help of director Hal Chambers, he’s taken the story of the film Top Gun and massaged it a bit with a funny sub-plot running through the story which I won’t spoil for you by telling you what it is.
He must have been having sleepless nights over how he was going to act out the scenes in which jets are appearing – an integral part of the story – and with his tongue firmly embedded in his cheek, he gets away with it in an amusing way.
Richard is a charming storyteller who engages with the audience, most of them already familiar with the film starring Tom Cruise, so before the curtain even went up he had a captive audience who were already fans of the Top Gun brand. There’s a lot of clever stuff in here, a witty storyline delivered well and a huge dollop of humour, but even if you’re not familiar with the story, you will not be disappointed.
It’s a fun piece of work – totally inoffensive – and it will make you smile. Well worth checking it out.
