Australian entertainer Sammy J is a must-see at the Fringe. It’s his first visit here for 14 years but he promises he will be back again, and he was such an entertaining guest when he dropped in for a chat on Fringe Radio.
I knew he was a funny man and I knew he played the piano very well, and the combination of comedy and musicianship has been very popular in his act for many years. His “90s Song” and “Pink Clouds” are so funny and are readily available to see on YouTube. But nothing prepared me for what his show was and it took me completely by surprise – in a good way!
The title of the show doesn’t paint a picture of what the show is about, and that is unfortunate, but once I saw him perform the show I realised how keeping it a secret was the only way to get so much out of this right up to the end. So as a reviewer all I can say is that Sammy J has one hell of a story to tell. It is an amazing story about himself and two people he went to school with, and how some incredible co-incidences happened to all three of them which created this true story.
It is such a surprise and the finale is remarkable. Who would have thought that a love of a paper comic would provide the thread which made this story come true. This is probably all I can tell you, but believe me, the shock and surprise at the reveal at the end of the show will be experienced by all who comes.
I just hope he comes back next year and word of mouth will help deliver huge audiences for him who will enjoy this so much.
