It’s not clear whether or not this is some kind of pilot for a TV show, but if it is I have serious doubts whether it will make the cut. Right off the bat I would say that the two comedians joining Frank on stage were funny, as was Frank. This show will always sell out due to the fact that living legend Frank is on stage. Just to spend time in his company is a thrill and the ad-libbing with the audience was very entertaining, so no quibble on that front. But I’m reviewing this as a game show format and whether or not it works. Clearly it didn’t.
There is nothing exciting about the various rounds of this show which attempts to make the audience the stars. There is no script so it’s all about the three comics interacting with the audience, which is the fun part, but I got the impression that no one at all – including Frank and the gang – cared a jot about this as a “game show”. There was zero enthusiasm for it and the surprise was that Frank agreed to take part in it.
There was lukewarm reaction to the game elements from the audience and the format didn’t excite or bring anything tangible to the evening. I didn’t go away disappointed because I enjoyed seeing Frank and the others on stage, but as a show itself it was poor.
