Mario’s much-anticipated Fringe debut could not have gone better. The self-depricating German comic immediately won the audience over by completing dissing his opening video, which featured himself in his modelling days. His easy-going style showed a man totally in control and jokes about Germany went down very well.
This was a departure for Mario from his usual stand-up show. This was a deeply personal hour mixing cracking gags with a pretty powerful story of his life so far, and certainly there were a few surprises along the way. At the Fringe we’ve seen a few comedians taking this opportunity to get things off their chest. For Mario, this therapeutic performance was no less funny for it, but it was a brave thing to do and a show which must have helped him immensely to get over his demons.
For all the bad things that have happened to him in the past, there is clearly a fantastic life ahead of him. Happily married to the lady he proposed to on stage a few years ago, the couple are looking forward to their first child, and things could not be going better for him as he begins a new chapter in his life.
Mario is very likeable indeed, he doesn’t take himself seriously and he has without doubt gained a lot of new fans. He is on a roll and this show proved he can compete with the best on the circuit.
