The Edinburgh Fringe has certainly attracted some of the world’s greatest magicians this year – fans of the genre have been spoiled by the likes of Colin Cloud, Charlie Caper, Kevin Quantum and a host of others all performing in the City and Ben Hart is right up there too with his “in the round” show at the Palais du Variété.
All of these guys came into the Fringe Radio studio for an interview and each of them were incredibly interesting guests – all performing different styles of magic and giving insights into their world of illusion. Ben was particularly good to talk to and we spent some time talking about the fact that he was performing to an audience who were pretty much watching on from different angles. It’s not ideal for some performers but Ben embraced it and it literally added a new dimension to his show.
Ben has spent years perfecting his art and his show was outstanding. He knows he has to deliver a show to match his profile and he certainly did that, using tremendous skill to entertain a very healthy crowd who went away very happy after he manipulated his show to build and build to an extraordinary climax. Even when you know it’s not real it is no less impressive and it certainly sent the punters home happy and baffled with plenty of discussions going on between spectators trying to analyse and process what they had just seen. Comments overheard were very favourable with many claiming that this was the best show they had seen from Ben (obviously regulars to his shows) and rest assured they will be back again to see him work his magic again.
